The savvy managers at TXDOT Corpus Christi took full advantage of Surface Tech\u2019s ACE XP Pilot Program on a heavily traveled half-mile section of the city\u2019s US-44 frontage road. The highway serves as a main artery to the area\u2019s oil fields as well as the primary route between Corpus Christi and Laredo. An abundance of semi-trucks use the roadway to access the industrial complexes alongside, and along with heavy ESAL loads, all have created a multitude of cracking issues.<\/p>

The agency and its contractor, Bay, Ltd., were interested in seeing how ACE XP would compare to the conventional mixes they have used over the past few years.<\/p>

In a day-long production, the Bay team installed 800 tons of Type D mix with a 64-22 base and 16 percent recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) as an overlay. Surface Tech provided enough ACE XP\u2122 to dose two sections of the roadway at both single and double doses. Surface Tech also provided its new MD Mini dosing equipment for the job.<\/p>

\u201cBay was new to ACE XP, but they were eager to try it because they had used Forta-Fi before and wanted a comparison. As a cost-free trial it was an easy experience for them, and no issues were faced during the production,\u201d said Dario Alvarez, Surface Tech.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
